IS PERFECTIONISM A SILENT KILLER?

IS PERFECTIONISM A SILENT KILLER?

How many of us think we need to be perfect, and when something doesn’t go the way we planned it feels like a failure?  I love this definition: “Perfectionism is the price of the never-ending desire; to never getting to the end of anything!”  As a Daring Way Facilitator, I had the privilege to be trained by Dr. Brene` Brown; who has written several best-selling books about perfectionism.  In her book, The Gifts of Imperfection, Dr. Brown explains how perfectionism emerged from her research. The definition that best fit her data is that “Perfectionism is a self-destructive and addictive belief system that fuels this primary thought: If I look perfect, live perfectly, work perfectly, and everything perfectly, I can avoid or minimize the painful feeling of shame, judgment, and blame.”   Dr. Brown uses an analogy by stating it is a twenty-ton shield

Women Offering Women Support: WOW!

Women Offering Women Support: WOW!

I recently had the pleasure of meeting some wonderful women while presenting a Brené Brown,”Daring Greatly” workshop. The discussion topic was about how we ALL have the ability to “Dare Greatly”.  What caught my attention was the support and kindness all the women had for each other. I kept thinking how nice it would be if more women would be able to experience this type of camaraderie and connection. I came up with an idea and would love your feedback!  I would like to create an occasion to invite women to be themselves, bring a friend and enjoy an evening filled with inspiration and fun! The event would take place in a relaxing setting which includes appetizers and drinks along with speakers that provide valuable information that all of us could use and share with other women!  The topics could range from skincare,

Telling Your Story Might Help Others Heal

Telling Your Story Might Help Others Heal

Happy New Year!!! I believe there is going to be a great deal of changes this year; especially for women. I have been impressed with the courage and bravery it has taken for so many women to come forward and stand up for what needs to change by putting a spotlight on sexual harassment.  Speaking out and unearthing the long history of this dirty little secret allows others to come forward to tell their story!  Women no longer need to carry the shame and guilt about what happened in the past and begin to create new ways to empower themselves wherever they are!  To help women navigate being vulnerable I will be offering a new workshop starting Wednesday, February 21st based on Dr. Brené Brown’s new book called; “Braving the Wilderness.” In her book, Brené discusses the pain of loneliness and how anxiety

Daring Greatly at CBRE Women’s Network Regional Conference

Hello Everyone!! The leaves are so beautiful right now and there is an autumn chill in the air; change is always happening! For many of us; change is difficult we like things to be predictable; yet the things that bring us joy usually come from something that happens spontaneously!  I have learned that you don’t have to be saddled for life with the mental attitudes you adopted from childhood. All of us are free to change our minds, and when we do this…. our experiences change too! I had a life changing experience recently by having the privilege to speak to the CBRE Women’s Network Regional Conference last week about Brené Brown’s book; “Daring Greatly”.  Throughout the day I had the opportunity to engage with a wonderful group of people who openly discussed how they felt about their lives, their careers and how they

It’s Time to Take Care Of Yourself

It’s Time to Take Care Of Yourself

The holiday season is upon us and whether it is spending time with family and friends or vacationing out of town, many of us feel the stress and expectations that occur during this time of year. This year I am doing a workshop called “Setting Your Own Intentions”. This retreat will be focusing on individuals setting their OWN intentions by exploring what they truly need and want out of life, a technique I like to call “Perspective Taking…” and asking ourselves the question; “What REALLY matters?”  Some helpful ways to start this process are: 1. Letting go of what others think about you…. YOU define YOU… Opinions don’t define REALITY, everyone’s journey in life is different, when we judge others it teaches us what we don’t like about ourselves, no one is responsible for your happiness, YOU ARE! 2. The past is the
