A YEAR BY THE SEA….THOUGHTS OF AN UNFINISHED WOMAN

A YEAR BY THE SEA….THOUGHTS OF AN UNFINISHED WOMAN By Joan Anderson I read this book in my early forties, and rereading it in my sixties gave me a whole new perspective about how life experiences offer us a glimpse into the continuous struggles we have to find meaning in our personal relationships. Joan speaks to ALL of us… Our lives are always changing just like the sandy shoreline along the beach; especially during these tumultuous past few years which have affected so many!  Joan’s book inspired me to take the time to rediscover my second half of life potential and hope her unique story will give you the courage to reveal and release the untapped resources inside of you! The Story of Joan Anderson: Joan was a loving wife and a supportive mother, but she slowly and unconsciously replaced her own dreams with

IS PERFECTIONISM A SILENT KILLER?

IS PERFECTIONISM A SILENT KILLER?

How many of us think we need to be perfect, and when something doesn’t go the way we planned it feels like a failure?  I love this definition: “Perfectionism is the price of the never-ending desire; to never getting to the end of anything!”  As a Daring Way Facilitator, I had the privilege to be trained by Dr. Brene` Brown; who has written several best-selling books about perfectionism.  In her book, The Gifts of Imperfection, Dr. Brown explains how perfectionism emerged from her research. The definition that best fit her data is that “Perfectionism is a self-destructive and addictive belief system that fuels this primary thought: If I look perfect, live perfectly, work perfectly, and everything perfectly, I can avoid or minimize the painful feeling of shame, judgment, and blame.”   Dr. Brown uses an analogy by stating it is a twenty-ton shield

LEARNING FROM EACH OTHER.. IN OUR JOURNEY CALLED LIFE

LEARNING FROM EACH OTHER.. IN OUR JOURNEY CALLED LIFE

“Everyone wants to live on the top of the mountain, but all the happiness and growth occurs while you are climbing it.” ~ Andy Rooney I thought this quote was perfect to describe how our lives have been full of so many challenges lately and finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel feels like we will eventually enjoy the view after such a long climb! All of us could use some positive words and a good source of inspiration as we head into the spring; so, I wanted to share with you a book I recently read called “The Mount of Olives” 11 Declarations to an Extraordinary Life”, by Michael V. Ivanov.  We should never quit searching, never settle, and never stop seeking our greatest purpose in life. It is in the struggle during our search that our purpose will

WHAT IS THE TRUE DEFINITION OF VIOLENCE AND ABUSE?

WHAT IS THE TRUE DEFINITION OF VIOLENCE AND ABUSE?

I am OUTRAGED when there is any human being or any other living creature that is forced to endure or witnessed suffering through violence and abuse. Maybe this time in our history is a wake-up call for all of us to address the atrocities that occur each and every day all over the world to people from different cultures, races, gender, and most of all of the children.  The innocent are those who have no choice, no voice, and their only method of survival is dependent on the people that abuse them.  This is a universal dilemma on multiple levels; the current events are devastating and the incidents happening everywhere have an enormous impact; especially on children.  Would it be possible to just go back and think about when you were a child?  All you wanted was to be safe and secure and

Dr. Brené Brown’s New Book: Braving the Wilderness

Dr. Brené Brown’s New Book: Braving the Wilderness

Dr. Brene Brown’s newest book is called Braving the Wilderness: The Quest for True Belong and the Courage to Stand Alone We are in a culture of perfectionism and pleasing, and while our ability to respect differences is eroding, it is easy to stay quiet or try to fit in rather than show up and be our true selves. If we want to attempt to brave the wilderness we will come across uncertainty and criticism; now that is a guarantee! Brene Brown discusses the daily practice that demands integrity and authenticity, a personal commitment to ourselves that we carry in our heart. Remember those times when you tried to fit in and then, later on, felt like you just sold a piece of yourself? It was only AFTER you gave it away you realize how precious and valuable it really was. We need

Women Offering Women Support: WOW!

Women Offering Women Support: WOW!

I recently had the pleasure of meeting some wonderful women while presenting a Brené Brown,”Daring Greatly” workshop. The discussion topic was about how we ALL have the ability to “Dare Greatly”.  What caught my attention was the support and kindness all the women had for each other. I kept thinking how nice it would be if more women would be able to experience this type of camaraderie and connection. I came up with an idea and would love your feedback!  I would like to create an occasion to invite women to be themselves, bring a friend and enjoy an evening filled with inspiration and fun! The event would take place in a relaxing setting which includes appetizers and drinks along with speakers that provide valuable information that all of us could use and share with other women!  The topics could range from skincare,

Daring Greatly at CBRE Women’s Network Regional Conference

Hello Everyone!! The leaves are so beautiful right now and there is an autumn chill in the air; change is always happening! For many of us; change is difficult we like things to be predictable; yet the things that bring us joy usually come from something that happens spontaneously!  I have learned that you don’t have to be saddled for life with the mental attitudes you adopted from childhood. All of us are free to change our minds, and when we do this…. our experiences change too! I had a life changing experience recently by having the privilege to speak to the CBRE Women’s Network Regional Conference last week about Brené Brown’s book; “Daring Greatly”.  Throughout the day I had the opportunity to engage with a wonderful group of people who openly discussed how they felt about their lives, their careers and how they

Book Review: Rising Strong: The Reckoning, The Rumble. The Revolution.

A new book: “Rising Strong: The Reckoning, The Rumble. The Revolution.“Dr. Brené Brown, PhD, LMSW Guess what?  I am so excited to announce that Dr.Brené Brown has a new book coming out and she sent them to all of her certified facilitators before it is released in August!  It’s called:  Rising Strong: The Reckoning, The Rumble. The Revolution. Dr. Brené knew when she was writing The Gifts of Imperfection and Daring Greatly that she would be using the data she has collected over the years to address the issue many of her readers have asked her which is, “I dared greatly, I was brave. I got my butt kicked and now I’m down for the count. How do I get back up?” Rising Strong is about what Dr. Brené has learned about surviving hurt that actually saved her again and again. It saved her and
